Nike Sports Exhibit

* Nike and the Oregon Historical Society announced last week that they are bringing the Smithsonian sports exhibit, "Breaking Records, Breaking Barriers" to the home state of Nike, Oregon. The exhibition will highlight 35 athletes in 17 different sports. The exhibit will open Saturday, June 9, and will run through Aug. 25, 2007 at the Oregon Historical Society in downtown Portland, Oregon. I think this is really exciting, and I would love to see an exhibition like this tour America. The history of sports and athletes is a very interesting thing, because you get to see how the athletes of today were inspired to be who they are.
Take, for example, the amazing Florida men's basketball team who are on their way to their second consecutive championship game. A lot of their inspiration is rumored to have come from their parents because many of the players have parents who were athletes when in their own prime. If the Florida team can make history Monday night and be the second team to win two national championships in a row, as well as a basketball and football championship in the same year, i wouldn't be surprised if someday they made it into a historical sports exhibit. * In other Nike news, sources in Brazil have suggested that Adidas, a German company, is about to battle with Nike with a bid that will offer the Brazilian football team three times the amount of money currently offered by Nike. It will be interesting to see if this is true, and if so, what Nike will do about it. It seems that in many international markets, Adidas and Nike have been trying to outbid each other lately.

The NCAA tourny is huge for Nike. UF is one of Nike's biggest and successful teams this year. Everything that says National Champions here at UF seems to have the Nike logo. If seeing others with shirts and whatnot on is product placement all day, then students at UF are bound to love Nike, in fact think there are no other brands out there but Nike by the end of this year.
